Dozens of credit union leaders and guests attended the 2021 Richard Myles Johnson Foundation (RMJ) Donor Appreciation Gala on Monday night, a yearly favorite of attendees during the annual REACH conference that’s dedicated to the funding and support of financial education in schools across California and Nevada.

The gala boasted 29 items in its silent auction this year and raised $5,440!

“This year’s Donor Appreciation Gala gives us the opportunity to thank all of our 2021 donors and share with them the successes the foundation had because of their support,” said Tena Lozano, executive director of the foundation. “I want to thank you all for your support. We could not accomplish our mission without you!”

In 2021, the RMJ Foundation’s “Bite of Reality” program reached more than 10,000 students throughout the United States thanks to dozens of credit unions in California, Nevada, and across the country. These credit unions took advantage of the foundation’s offer of free Bite of Reality App access during the pandemic.

This year’s gala capped off the first night of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ REACH 2021 conference. Lozano discussed how RMJ continued to work with credit unions to streamline and improve the virtual delivery of the program as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to keep in-person events a rarity over the past year.

The Bite of Reality App continues to be licensed-out to state credit union foundations and credit unions across the country.

This year’s gala was sponsored exclusively by PSCU, which is an important partner to the foundation.

The RMJ Foundation is named after, and honors, credit union industry icon and former Western Corporate FCU (WesCorp) CEO Richard Myles Johnson, who passed away in August 2016 at the age of 92. He is remembered for his decades of dedication, commitment, and service to the credit union movement and philosophy.
