RMJ Foundation Donor Appreciation Gala attendees celebrate a successful 2020 during this year’s virtual event.

Dozens of credit union leaders and guests logged-on to the 2020 Richard Myles Johnson Foundation (RMJ) Donor Appreciation Gala, a yearly favorite of credit union professionals dedicated to the funding and support of financial education for youth across California and Nevada.

“This year’s virtual Donor Appreciation Gala gives us the opportunity to thank all of our 2020 donors and share with them the successes the foundation had because of their support, even during an unprecedented year like 2020,” said Tena Lozano, executive director of the foundation. “I want to thank you all for your support. We could not accomplish our mission without you.”

This year’s virtual gala capped off the first day of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ REACH 2020 conference. Lozano discussed how RMJ quickly jumpstarted a remote version of the foundation’s “Bite of Reality” App when the COVID-19 pandemic quickly shut down schools, businesses, and society earlier this year.

Also, pre- and post-test functionality was introduced, which will provide metrics regarding the learning that takes place during the Bite of Reality program. This year, the Bite of Reality program reached thousands of students throughout California and Nevada thanks to credit unions that offer the program in their communities.

As of last year, the Bite of Reality App had also been licensed-out to state credit union foundations and credit unions across the country, with grant support from the National Credit Union Foundation.

This year’s gala was sponsored exclusively by PSCU, with each attendee receiving a ring light to “shine a light on financial education” and look their best in the never-ending world of Zoom business conference calls during COVID-19.

The RMJ Foundation is named after, and honors, credit union industry icon and former Western Corporate FCU (WesCorp) CEO Richard Myles Johnson, who passed away in August 2016 at the age of 92. He is remembered for his decades of dedication, commitment, and service to the credit union movement and philosophy.

You can watch the entire REACH 2020 conference in real-time or on-demand! Click here to experience this exclusive virtual conference on Oct. 26, 28 and 29, and Nov. 4 and 5. REACH 2020 is one of the credit union industry’s premier annual events, drawing leaders and system partners from across California, Nevada and the United States.
