During the opening general session at the Credit Union National Association’s 2019 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), Star One CU and BOPTI FCU were honored by CUNA for ranking as one of the nation’s best credit unions in providing direct financial benefits to members compared to the financial benefits provided by local banks.

Part of CUNA’s annual “Benefits of Membership” Award program, the awards recognize each credit union for their low loan interest rates, higher-than average deposit yields, and fewer or lower fees compared to banking institutions.

During 2018, Star One delivered direct benefits to its members totaling $2,951 per member household. The credit union is located in Sunnyvale, CA with assets of more than $8.7 billion and more than 105,000 members. Star One was compared to local banks in the above-$1 billion asset category in a comprehensive analysis completed by CUNA.

Similarly, BOPTI FCU—in 2018 as well—delivered direct benefits to its members totaling $555 per member household. The credit union is located in San Pedro, CA with assets of more than $72 million and more than 4,800 members. BOPTI was compared to local banks in the $50 – $100 million asset category by CUNA.

BOPTI and Star One joined seven other credit unions that were recognized in their respective asset categories. All nine were picked out of hundreds of credit unions from across the nation that CUNA based its analysis on.
