California Unclaimed Property Report and Remit Period Reminder

As a reminder, the report and remit period for credit unions holding property for members whose last known address is in California and is now escheatable is June 1-15, 2024.

The upcoming report and remit period is the second of a two-part process which includes reporting unclaimed property to the State Controller’s Office (SCO) on November 1, and then, between June 1 and June 15 of the following year, reporting and remitting any property that has not been reunited with its owner.

Use the Remit Report Checklist
The SCO provides a Remit Report Checklist to assist in the reporting process. Take a look at SCO’s other reporting quick guides for future reference.

SCO Educational Webinars
The SCO offers free educational webinars that may be the single best way to prepare to report unclaimed property. If you’re new to this, try Introduction to Unclaimed Property Reporting.

If you have some years of experience reporting unclaimed property, consider a Remit Report Refresher for a quick brush-up. Didn’t make the scheduled dates? Contact the OCU to schedule a webinar for you and your staff at your convenience.
