It was an eventful week at the California State Capitol where Assemblymember-Elect David Alvarez was sworn in. Alvarez prevailed in the special runoff election to fill the vacancy of Lorena Gonzalez in the 80th Assembly District when she took a job to lead the California Labor Federation.

The district encompasses the San Diego communities of Barrio, Logan, and Logan Heights, as well as the cities of Chula Vista, National City, and Imperial Beach.

Alvarez plans to run again in November for his re-election, where he can continue being a strong voice for his 145,264 credit union constituents.

The California Credit Union League's advocacy team met with Alvarez in March during his campaign and quickly discovered his strong support and understanding of credit unions. This is a BIG WIN for the credit union movement!

Meanwhile, the League is waiting patiently as the statewide remaining primary election results emerge, but the returns thus far are encouraging.

The League's advocacy team will send a detailed primary election report upon the finalized results.
