CDFI Applications Consolidate Under One Process

The streamlined application process for those credit unions eligible to seek certification as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) is being phased out.

Credit unions can find all the necessary information about applying on U.S. Treasury’s CDFI Fund webpage. Credit unions with questions about certification and the application process may contact the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion at CURECDFI@ncua.gov.

The NCUA encourages eligible credit unions to explore CDFI certification, which makes them eligible for CDFI Fund training and competitive award programs to enhance their capacity to provide underserved communities with access to insured, affordable financial services. Currently, 461 federally insured credit unions are certified as Community Development Financial Institutions.
