Nevada Primary Election Results: Local, State, and Federal Seats

Nevada’s primary election results are in! While more ballots are expected, key races are already being called by the news media across the state ballot.

This year, voter turnout across Nevada was surprisingly low at approximately 16 percent. By comparison, the 2022 primary election saw a nearly 26 percent turnout.

Here’s a summary and analysis of the results:

Senate Democrats & Governor’s Endorsed Candidates Shine
Nevada State Senate Democrats had a strong night, with their endorsed candidates projected to defeat all of the Culinary Union’s candidate picks. The Culinary Union (representing thousands of leisure and hospitality workers) had launched a significant attack on the state legislature’s Democrats, backing many challengers.

Regarding Gov. Joe Lombardo’s endorsements, his candidates are projected to win across the board. This sets them up for the General Election in November.

Local and Federal: Las Vegas, Clark County, and Congress
Local and federal races:

• Las Vegas mayoral race: Former Rep. Shelley Berkley will face Las Vegas City Councilmember Victoria Seaman in the General Election. Berkley won approximately 35 percent of the vote, with Seaman in second with 30 percent.
• S. Senate: Sam Brown emerged victorious from a crowded primary field and will now challenge incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen.
• Congressional District 4: Former North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee secured his place in the General Election by defeating two other Republican candidates. He will run against Rep. Steven Horsford.

Las Vegas City Council:

• Ward 1: Brian Knudsen won.
• Ward 3: Olivia Diaz won.
• Ward 5: Assemblymembers Shondra Summers-Armstrong and CH Miller will compete in the General Election.

Clark County commissioners:

• District A: Republican Ryan Hamilton is projected to win his primary and will challenge Democrat incumbent Michael Naft.
• District C: Republican April Becker will face Democrat Assemblymember Shannon Bilbray Axelrod.

Detailed Analysis of Key Races
The Culinary Union experienced mixed results. This powerful union’s stunt to endorse several legislative Democrats fell flat in the Nevada State Senate.

However, the union did win two races in the Nevada State Assembly where it was at odds with the Democratic caucus picks.

Nevada State Senate races:

• Senate District 1: Shelly Crawford is projected to defeat Culinary Union-endorsed Assemblymember Claire Thomas.
• Senate District 3: Incumbent Rochelle Nguyen is projected to win against Culinary Union-endorsed Geoconda Hughes.
• Senate District 5: Jennifer Atlas is set to face Republican Carrie Buck in what promises to be a close race.
• Senate District 15: Assemblymember Angie Taylor is projected to defeat Culinary Union-endorsed Naomi Duerr.

Nevada State Assembly races:

• Assembly District 17: Culinary Union-endorsed Linda Hunt is projected to win.
• Assembly District 27: Culinary Union-backed Heather Goulding is projected to win.

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo’s endorsements had a clean sweep, indicating strong support for well-funded Republican candidates in key races. Lombardo has been active in legislative races in an effort to prevent two-thirds Democratic majorities in the state senate and assembly. Democrats have a two-thirds majority in the state assembly by one seat, but there is opportunity for Republicans to take Democrat seats and bring the margin to a simple majority. Democrats are one seat away from a super majority in the state senate, with opportunity to take at least one seat from Republicans.

• Senate District 5: Republican Carrie Buck will face Democrat Jennifer Atlas.
• Senate District 11: Republican Lori Rogich is projected to face incumbent Democrat Dallas Harris.
• Senate District 18: Republican John Steinbeck will compete against Democrat Ron Bilodeau.
• Senate District 19: John Ellison is projected to win without a Democratic opponent.
• Assembly District 21: Republican April Arndt will challenge Democratic incumbent Elaine Marzola.
• Assembly District 29: Republican Annette Dawson Owens will face Democrat Joe Dalia.
• Assembly District 41: Republican Rafael Arroyo will challenge Democratic Assembly Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui.
